6 Awful Marathon Mistakes that you might be Doing at this Very Moment

By Mark Samitzberg

Maybe you are not actually aware about it but right now, you might be doing some pretty awful mistakes that are limiting your marathon progression. If you've been involved in the marathon sport for quite some time now, then you might already know about them, if not, then I'm glad you came across this article. Pay attention to some of the terrible mistakes that many marathon runners are doing right now and learn how to avoid them:

No. 1: Having the wrong goal! It's very important that I begin with this one. Having the wrong goal is going to hugely affect your training and you should get it right........ now! What I mean here is; if you are a beginner in this sport, don't expect to finish first in the first marathon race that you take part in. This will not happen, unless you are incredibly gifted but I seriously don't think that such a thing would happen. Set yourself an achievable goal, for example; if you are having a hard time to even finish a marathon race, then maybe you should focus on half-marathon races instead. And once you become comfortable running half-marathons, you can then move on to a full-distance marathon.

No. 2: Go look for the right marathon training program! Don't just do the same BS exercises that everybody is doing, do some research. Do what is important and do not over-exercise yourself because you might end up doing more wrong than good.

No. 3: Are you doing some strength training? Many marathoners tend to ignore the importance of that and yet they are extremely important. Strength training will build stronger muscles, bones and ligaments which will in turn reduce the risk of any kind of injury. So include them in your training program if it's not already in there.

No. 4: Lack of Belief and Motivation! I know some of you weren't expecting me to get into the mind stuff but I have to talk about it. Having the right state of mind is crucial if you want to become a champion. If before the beginning of a race, you already think that you don't have what it takes to finish the race, then I can assure you that YOU WON'T FINISH THAT RACE! If you don't believe in your own capabilities to achieve your desired goal, it will be a lot harder for you to keep on progressing. You need it to stay motivated.

No. 5: Don't be in a hurry when you're starting a race! A marathon distance is 26 miles long, you need to be patient, time your run well in order not to be exhausted when you reach half of the distance that you are supposed to. Start at a medium pace and work your way to the top of the pile from that. It will take time to get this right but you'll understand what I'm saying when you'll gain more experience.

No. 6: Stay Hydrated during the whole race! Many marathon runners have no idea about how to stay hydrated during a race and yet it is so simple. The hydration process does not begin at the start of a race but a couple of days before that. You have to make sure that you are always hydrated 2 - 3 days before the competition, during the actual race and after the race as well.

Unfortunately, I don't have enough time to explain in great details many of the mistakes that I have talked about in here but at least you know some of them now, and you'll try your best to avoid them in the future. If you want to know how you could improve your marathon skills even more, then keep reading, there are more stuff that you might be interested in.
