The Career Mom - How to Balance Your Career and House Life

By Hal Neff

In this generation, it's getting increasingly hard to live off of a single income. This means that oftentimes moms have few options when it comes to your decision of whether or not to work while bringing up children.

If you've decided to keep up with your profession, whether through choice or necessity, you will be busy, but you can certainly make it work. You will be rewarded in the end because you will not have to worry about re-entry into the labor force once the children are older, and you might choose to continue building your own 401K for retirement reasons.

Scheduling and Preparing

If you ask most working moms about how they do it, you'll often hear about their specific scheduling and planning habits. It is important to work out a set schedule that works to fit.

Look at the following working mom tips:

1 . Plan your mornings. If you're not a morning person, try finishing some of your own morning duties the night before. Schedule sufficient time to get the children up and dressed if they are not old enough to do it themselves. When you can, enjoy a meal together as a family before the day's responsibilities.

2 . Schedule events. Schedule your own after work routines in a planner. This would ensure that there's room for everything and that nothing important is forgotten along the way. Play dates, grocery shopping, and other errands could be scheduled as well.

3. Be flexible. Remember that everything will not always go flawlessly. If something does not work out and you need to rearrange your own schedule, just plan to do something on a different day. Since you are balancing several tasks at once, maintaining your schedule flexible is essential for keeping your stress levels down.

Keeping Involved

One of the major worries of working moms is the simple fact that they feel like they are not as involved. However , if you concentrate on spending the time you do have with your little ones in a quality way, you'll still be heavily involved in their lives. Simply because you aren't there every minute, it does not imply that you are not creating a big difference in their lives.

If you arrive home from the office, do something with your kids that you'll all enjoy. Maybe they will want some alone time to play independently, but you could also stay involved by showing that you care. You will have quality time with them at meals, and you can always engage them in family games or other activities.

Taking Breaks

It's vital that you remember to schedule some breaks. If you need a "spa day" now and then, it is certainly something that you deserve. Sometimes you will feel that you spend every waking moment either at the office or worrying about the children, so take some time to relax. Read a book after the children have gone to bed, work on your relationship with your husband or wife, or participate in anything you find relaxing.

Your Relationships

Spend individual time with each member of your family. Make sure to remember your partner during life's crazy occasions and give that relationship some much-needed nourishment as well. Individual attention will help you get to know your kids better, and you'll have time to truly build upon your lasting relationship.

A career mom is a really special person. Sure, life could get truly busy at times, but if you stick to these guidelines, you will be able to strike a happy balance between your profession and your life at home.
